Upgrade Notes¶
This release contains database schema changes to the following tables:

This will take a small amount of time to migrate the database. Please test the upgrade on a copy of your database first, to ensure the upgrade is smooth and to time how long the upgrade takes.
Important
Do not cancel the upgrade on a production system for any reason. Doing so will corrupt your database, requiring a backup or our repair service.
Packaging¶
Review Board 6.0 beta 2 supports Python 3.7 - 3.11.
Due to Python’s end of life schedule, it’s likely that 6.0 final will be 3.8 - 3.11.
Djblets 4.0 beta 2 is required.
New Features¶
Review your own draft data (Bug #831).
Until now, Review Board has not allowed you to create comments on unpublished diffs or file attachments, because updating that data would end up deleting comments from the reviews.
This has now been changed so you can add review comments for drafts before those drafts are published. The resulting review request and review can then be published together using the unified review banner.
Extensions can hide built-in actions.
The new HideActionHook allows extension authors to hide built-in actions (such as “Ship It!”). With this, you can either disable built-in functionality entirely, or replace it with your own custom implementations.
Docking file list in the diff viewer (Bug #2605, Bug #4059)
As you start to scroll the page in the diff viewer, the file list will dock into the unified review banner. The list will by default show the files which are visible on the page, and will react as you continue to scroll. You can also click a button to momentarily open up the entire file list, letting you quickly switch between files without having to scroll back up to the top of the page.
More configuration options for SAML 2.0 SSO.
Some SAML identity providers don’t provide as much configurability as others. Review Board admins can now configure the NameID format and user attribute names to match their IdP.
Patches by Anes Mukhametov.
Performance Improvements¶
Improved HTTP caching behavior for API resources.
HTTP caching for API resources was, in many cases, entirely disabled. These limitations have been removed, and repeated fetching of API endpoints can now take much better advantage of caching.
Extensions and Internal API Changes¶
The new HideActionHook allows extension authors to hide the built-in actions (such as Ship It! or Close).
This can be used to either disable the functionality entirely, or replace it with your own action implementations.
The new FileAttachmentThumbnailContainerHook JavaScript extension hook allows extension authors to add new items to the menu attached to file attachments or otherwise manipulate the thumbnail.
Most code which had been marked for deprecation in previous versions has been removed.
All of these items had previously generated deprecation warnings.
More of the JavaScript codebase has been ported to ES6 classes with Spina.
The Spina library now allows these classes to be extended via the old Backbone.js
extend()
method, so this transition should now be seamless for extension authors who are inheriting from Review Board JS objects.rbext test can now use
pytest
as the test runner with the--pytest
argument. This behavior will become the default in Review Board 7.
Bug Fixes¶
Review Requests¶
Opening and closing the editor for the change description field no longer causes a visual jump in the page layout.
Fixed issues when interacting with a review request across multiple browser/tab windows.
If a review was discarded from one tab, attempts to create or edit comments from another tab would result in errors. This bug was technically present in earlier versions, but became much easier to hit in 6.0 beta 1.
This has now been fixed such that discarding a review from one tab will force other tabs to reload. This only works within a single browser session, not across different devices.
Discarding review request drafts and review drafts now includes a confirmation step.
Very long commit messages in the diff viewer commits table no longer affect the width of the page. (Bug #4891).
Patch by Sandy Saji.
Other¶
Fixed the appearance of the pencil icon for editing dashboard columns.
Closing the review dialog no longer triggers a page reload.
When redirected to the login page, logging in with SSO would end up loading the dashboard instead of the intended page.
The redirect URL is now properly loaded after the SSO flow.
Fixed the sort order when selecting items in conditions for integrations.
Fixed issues interacting with drop-down menus on mobile/touch devices.
Most dialogs can now be closed or canceled via the keyboard using the Escape key.
